This past weekend I saw the new movie “Frozen” from Disney. The movie stars the vocal talents of Idina Menzel, Kristen Bell, Jonathan Groff, Josh Gad, and Alan Tudyk (among others). This film is loosely based on the Hans Christian Andersen story “The Snow Queen.”
The film follows two sisters, Anna (Kristen Bell) and Elsa (Idina Menzel). Elsa has powers to make snow and freeze things however she has a hard time controlling it. When Anna and Elsa are kids Elsa accidentally hurts Anna with her powers, so their parents take her to see the trolls to help her. The trolls fix Anna’s memories so she forgets about Elsa’s powers and when they return home Anna cannot figure out why Elsa locks herself in her room away from everyone. And their parents lock up the castle to keep others from being hurt.
A few years after their parents died the castle is opened up on the day of Elsa’s coronation to become queen. After the coronation Elsa and Anna have an argument Anna loses control of her powers and starts freezing items in the castle. Everyone in attendance is scared and Elsa runs away.
After Elsa takes off Anna goes to find her. Along the way she meets some new friends, Kristoff (Jonathan Groff) and Olaf the living snowman (Josh Gad) who help her find her sister. But that is not where the journey ends, Elsa creates a snow monster to scare them away and accidentally freezes Anna’s heart which slowly starts to turn her to ice.
Does Anna become a block of ice? Does Elsa come back to rule her kingdom? To find out I recommend checking out the movie in theatres. It is well worth the price of admission to see the film.
The music in the film is great and after watching movie one of the songs got stuck in my head. The song was sung by Kristen Bell and called “Do You Want to Build a Snowman?” which is basically just the character of Anna pleading with Elsa to leave her room and do something with her. But it had an upbeat tempo and was a catchy tune.
So I say go check out this film, and if you miss it while it is in theatres then rent or buy it as soon as it comes out on DVD or OnDemand.
