“Justice League: War” is the newest animated Direct-to-DVD release from DC. The plot comes from the comic book “Justice League,” specifically Issues #1-6 that was part of DC’s New 52 initiative, it was also collected into graphic novel/trade paperback form with the title “Justice League: Origin” by Geoff Johns, Jim Lee, and Scott Williams.
The film stars the vocal talents of:
Sean Astin as Shazam
Zach Callison as Billy Batson
Christopher Gorham as Flash / Barry Allen
Justin Kirk as Green Lantern / Hal Jordan
Michelle Monaghan as Wonder Woman
Shemar Moore as Cyborg / Victor Stone
Jason O’Mara as Batman
Alan Tudyk as Superman
Steven Blum as Darkseid
Rocky Carroll as Silas Stone
If you like action-packed cartoons then you will not be disappointed because a good portion of the film involves the heroes fighting the forces of Darkseid and each other. A true origin story we get the first meetings of these superheroes as the Earth comes under attack.
If you have not read the comic storyline this animated tale is taken from then a simple synopsis (I don’t want to delve to deep for those who have not seen or read this story) is Darkseid and his forces invade Earth. And it is up to Shazam, Flash, Green Lantern, Wonder Woman, Cyborg, Batman, and Superman to join forces to try to stop him.
I highly recommend this movie to anyone who is a fan of DC, the Justice League, or cartoons in general. The characters are a little more badass then the superheroes I am used to, now remember I am from the era of “Super Friends” and “Spider-Man and his Amazing Friends” where cartoons were tame by today’s standards so take my opinion on them being badass with a grain of salt.
But Superman gives Batman and Green Lantern a beatdown of epic proportions when they first meet him in Metropolis, until Batman calls Superman Clark which stop his assault. Batman also seems to be the brains of the collective that will come to be known as the Justice League which personally I find messed up since his only superpower is having a ton of money, but I digress. Below is the trailer which will give you a little taste of the feature.
