‘Supergirl’ Pilot Leaked and It Is F&%king Fantastic

supergirl-first-look-image-full-bodyIn the last 24 hours the pilot for “Supergirl” was leaked on the internet, 6 months before its television debut. Will it kill the ratings when it does appear on television? That is unknown, in fact there is some speculation that CBS deliberately released the pilot to get people talking about it. But that is not what we are here to discuss right now.

Right now I want to share my thoughts of the pilot itself, and I think if you read the title of this post you will see that I obviously enjoyed the show.

“Supergirl” stars Melissa Benoist as Kara Zor-El/Supergirl, the Kryptonian cousin of Kal-El/Superman, who lives in National City. When the show starts out Kara is living a normal life as Kara Danvers (the Danvers family is who took Kara in when she landed on Earth. Mrs Danvers is played by Helen Slater, who played Supergirl in the 1984 movie, and Mr Danvers is Dean Cain, who played Superman in “Lois and Clark: The New Adventures of Superman”) who is an assistant to Cat Grant, the owner of a huge multimedia conglomerate.

Kara “reveals” herself to the city when an airplane’s engines catch on fire that her sister is on. After saving the plane her image gets out and she is dubbed Supergirl.

I don’t really want to get too much more into the description of the pilot because this is definitely a show you should enjoy for yourself, I will give a few more thoughts that will hopefully not spoil too much for anyone who hasn’t watched yet.

  • Kara’s sister is kind of a bitch. She pressures her for most of the pilot to keep acting normal and not help others, even though Kara tells her she feels like she should be.
  • Laura Benanti was, in my opinion, a great choice to play Alura Zor-El (Kara’s birth mother).
  • Alex Danvers (Kara’s sister) and her boss at the Department of Extra-Normal Operations (DEO) make Kara feel a little like shit telling her that Kryptonian criminal escaped the phantom zone because of her.
  • Sadly it seems as though Kara doesn’t have a huge support system outside of James Olsen and Winn Schott.

The pilot is well worth watching whether you go to the internet to watch it now or wait 6 months and watch it on CBS. It has a good balance of action and drama in it making the show something most anyone can enjoy.
