‘Wytches’ #1 – Review *May Contain Spoilers*

I am a fan of the horror genre so when I heard about this new series written by Scott Snyder I knew I would check it out. And so far, so good.

This first issue starts in the year 1919 when a woman gets pulled into a tree after her son bashes her in the head with a rock and simply tells her, “Pledged is pledged.”

We then jump forward to 2014. The Rook family has just moved into a house and the father (Charlie) is trying to help the daughter (Sailor) overcome her anxiety of going to a new school. She wonders aloud if the kids at the new school already know what happened at her previous one.

On the bus ride to school we see kids talking about Sailor behind her back, while she tries to keep her anxiety at bay. We then learn about the incident that happens at her previous school when a classmates of Sailor’s asks, “So… Did you kill that girl or not?”

There is more that happens in this book, such as you will see what really happened at Sailor’s old school. But I do not want to spoil this story anymore than I already have because it is a pretty good story.

The art style by Jock is not my favorite but it is still good, and I believe the art works for the story beingtold. It gives it the horror vibe that the book needs and deserves.Between the artwork and the story this first issue is fucking amazing, you should definitely pick up a copy if you haven’t already. And let us know in the comment section what you thought of it.
